10 Best Anime Characters With Names That Start With M

I have done a post about names once and I figured that since I have already started, why not the whole alphabet? Anime characters with names that start with the letter M are my favorite, so I am getting them done right after the A ones. This has probably something to do with me being named Mia M., so both my first name and my surname are starting with M.

The results are interesting. M names seem to be a popular choice for females over males, and when I browsed MaL, I found so many famous anime girls with names that start with M. Characters like Marin Kitagawa, Mai Sakurajima, Miku Nakano, and many more!

Let’s get into it and see who the best anime characters with names that start with the letter M are!

10. Mio Akiyama

Mio is a quiet and shy person who enjoys spending time alone more than your average K-ON! character. However, she is a very compassionate and sensitive girl.

Introverted by nature, she dedicates this “lonely” time mainly to songwriting and reading.

While the rest of the K-ON! cast are happy-go-lucky girls, Mio is a very diligent & responsible individual. She is known for having good grades.

9. Marin Kitagawa (My Dress-up Darling)

Marin is the latest darling and ultimate waifu material from a school rom-com series called My Dress-up Darling that aired in 2022.

She is a gyaru girl who loves cosplaying her favorite anime/game characters. You guessed it right, Marin is an OTAKU! And she is not ashamed about it, not even in the slightest. If someone tries to tell her otherwise, she can be pretty sharp-tongued. Good for her!

When she meets a meek and bashful MC who hides his hobby out of shame/trauma, she encourages him to pursue what he loves and to be proud of it. She is never judgmental, whether it comes to looks, personality, or interests.

Marin is a cheerful, carefree, and kind person who would make a great friend or a girlfriend. She would support you (and your hobbies) and spend a lot of time with you doing fun stuff. Marin would also send you some cute cosplay pics. 🙂

8. Mugen (Samurai Champloo)

Mugen is the only boy on this list.

The main character of Samurai Champloo, aged 19 is a self-centered, rude, and short-tempered boy who behaves and looks more like an anti-hero than a typical hero.

Often picking fights with ANYONE for petty reasons, he also loves to challenge anyone he finds worthy because of his competitive nature. Once he finds

His fighting style is just as erratic as his personality but he is a quick learner. Mugen can incorporate enemies’ moves into his highly unorthodox swordplay with no problem.

7. Misato Katsuragi (Neon Evangelion Genesis)

Misato is one of a few unproblematic anime waifus that everyone adores.

She is a hard worker who takes her job seriously and fulfills all her duties diligently, which results in her promotion from operations director with the rank of captain to major.

Outside of work, she is a fun-loving, carefree, and laid-back woman who loves drinking beer and can’t cook anything except for water. 😀 This means that Misato almost always eats only instant food. And often in weird combinations that others find gross.

Oh, and while other people start their day by drinking coffee, Misato starts her day by drinking her favorite beer!

6. Makima (Chainsaw Man)

Makima is a high-ranking Public Safety Devil Hunter, who took the MC as her human pet. Don’t get the wrong idea, she is an antagonist… 😛 But as you can see, that doesn’t stop people from choosing this mischievous beauty as one of their favorite anime characters with names that start with M.

She would do anything to achieve her goals and is not above betraying, manipulating, and even sacrificing people.

Makima is a beauty but she is also extremely powerful. She can hold her own when battling enemies thanks to her unrivaled physical strength.

It is later revealed that she is a Control Devil, which means that she possesses various supernatural abilities. A few examples of what a Control Devil can do: controlling any being that she believes is inferior to her, killing people from inside by looking at them, or even being gravely injured and moments later standing up unscathed.

5. Mashiro Shiina (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou)

This red-eyed beauty is adorable but also domestically helpless to the point the main character has to help with dressing herself otherwise she would go to school naked. LITERALLY. However, she is being insanely good at anything she puts her mind to, so that seems to compensate for her lack of common sense in normal life.

It seems like Mashiro suffers from high-functioning autism but that has not been confirmed and she just might be eccentric or extremely sheltered.

4. Mikoto Misaka (A Certain Scientific Railgun)

Although Toaru Kagaku no Railgun is a spin-off, the popularity of Mikoto is far superior to that of Index who comes from the parent series.

Don’t be fooled by the official art above, she is still a middle schooler. And not a random one. She is the most powerful Electromaster and the third strongest Esper out of seven Level 5 espers. Despite being OP, she still has to use her wits to outsmart her enemies and calculate her moves, which delivers interesting fights for us to watch.

Mikoto is a kind, iron-willed, and smart girl who always lends a helping hand to those who need it. She also doesn’t look down on others despite the power difference. She befriends all sorts of folks, no matter their level!

3. Miku Nakano (The Quintessential Quintuplets)

When the Quintessential Quintuplets aired, Miku was the #1 waifu from the series almost instantly. Despite the fact that there are 4 other Quints to choose from!

She is an introverted, soft-spoken, and shy girl who doesn’t give a damn about looks when looking for a partner. But instead of being a fake pick-me girl, she is genuine about it. Isn’t it a coincidence that getting a beautiful, loyal girl like Miku is wishful thinking for many guys? And Miku fits into this idea perfectly.

She is the embodiment of what a perfect girlfriend should be like. Since she is an introvert, I bet she would not go partying either, she would rather spend time playing games, watching some series, cuddling, or something like that. Which is a huge + if her partner was a gamer or an otaku.

2. Mai Sakurajima (Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai)

Mai is the best girl from Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai.

No one can deny her physical beauty—she is a successful model and actress equipped with enchanting big eyes, a cute face, and a well-defined body. This, however, doesn’t mean that her life is easy. She was taken advantage of when she was younger which permanently scarred her. The worst thing? Her mum used her beauty to make “easy money”.

Being a tsundere, it’s natural that she gets angry and flustered if the MC makes any lewd remarks toward her. In her ‘normal self’, she is earnest, polite, and kind-hearted.

1. Mikasa Ackerman (Attack on Titan)

It’s a difficult task to compete with a powerful female character from one of the most influential & popular series—Attack on Titan.

Mikasa is undoubtedly the most popular anime character that has a name starting with M.

Being an Ackerman means that she is not an ordinary human. Their bloodline is a byproduct of titan science, and they are genetically modified, which means that they possess exceptional abilities. For now, there are only two known Ackerman alive: Mikasa & Levi Ackerman who fight for the same side. She, along with Levi, possesses superhuman agility, strength, and tenacity among other fighting qualities.

While others struggle to take down monstrous Titans, Mikasa makes it look like a tutorial. She alone is worth more than 100 soldiers!

The only weakness Mikasa has is Eren (the MC) but he is also the reason why she continues fighting. It’s worth noting that her future would be very grim (if there was any) if he didn’t save her in the first place, so it all makes sense.
