5 Anime To Watch During the Coronavirus Pandemic

Now the intro is going to be on a serious note – COVID- 19 is an infectious disease caused by coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. It’s all over the media, but I am going to describe it shortly too. What we know by far that it originated in China in November/ December 2019 and spread really quickly all over Europe (affecting all European countries) and the rest of the world too.

As of 15/03/2020, there are over 156 000 cases worldwide, almost 6000 deaths and over 73 000 recovered. The epicenter of the coronavirus is currently Italy in Europe, followed by Spain.

Symptoms are ranging from:

  • mild (mild fever, cough),
  • severe (a high-grade fever, choking cough),
  • critical (pneumonia, kidney failure, or even death).

Mild cases account for around 80% of all cases. Vulnerable groups are immunosuppressed patients and the elderly.

How to protect yourself and people dear to you:

  • Wash your hands regularly with soap and warm water for 20 seconds or use a disinfectant based on alcohol.
  • Try to stay away from sick people (1-meter range).
  • Disinfect surfaces (phones, cliques, keyboards, mouses, laptops, tables).
  • Do not travel abroad (only if necessary).
  • Do not use shared towels.
  • Do not gather in places with a high concentration of people.
  • If you cough or sneeze cover your mouth with a handkerchief (sneeze to your elbow bend/ handkerchief).
  • Wear a mask.
  • Ask your employer to allow you to work from home if possible.

While it’s important to not panic if we want to have any control over the situation we have to act like responsible individuals who care about ourselves and other people too. Just because someone is young or asymptomatic does not mean they can’t infect others, including high-risk groups of people who can die.

Now to the bright part – while things suck, we can be home and watch some anime or play games to brighten our days and cheer up a bit, right?

These 5 anime are my recommendations during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

5. Kamisama Kiss

Why?

A light-hearted romantic comedy full of likable characters and a handsome fox youkai, what can be better?

Summary

The main heroine, Nanami, becomes a land god after getting kissed on a forehead by a stranger she had saved. She is homeless of her father’s debts so she willingly accepts the stranger’s offer to live in his home as his gratitude for saving him. So-called home is, in fact, a shrine – filled with shrine spirits and a pretty familiar, a fox yokai named Tomoe.

Will Nanami be able to fulfill her tasks as a god?

4. Kyokou Suiri (In/Spectre)

Why?

In/Spectre is one of my favorite mysterious shows of 2020. It’s still an ongoing anime with a really cute loli character as the main heroine. If you love a touch of romance, mysteries, and youkai, definitely go for it!

Summary

The story revolves around Kotoko Iwanage, a young girl who might look normal but that could not be further from the truth. At the age of 11, she became a mediator between the spirit and human world. Whenever youkai have some problem they wish to solve they contact Kotoko.

On the other hand, Kurou Sakuragawa is a 22-year-old university student who has just broken up with his girlfriend. Kotoko immediately makes her move when she sees the chance to become closer to Kurou and hopes to get married to him one day.

She quickly realizes that Kurou has a lot of knowledge and can be a great help when it comes to solving the various problems presented by the supernatural so they become partners, but she is still hoping that she can make Kurou reciprocate her feelings in the process.

3. Diabolik Lovers

Why?

I remember binge-watching this reverse harem ecchi full of bishounens when I was younger… good old times, huh? If you are a fan of ecchi, bishounen vampires, and of course, reverse harem here is a completely must-watch anime for you!

2. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun

Why?

I would say that Toaru Kagaku no Railgun is the best series from Toaru Universe despite being a spin-off. Misaka Mikoto, the main heroine of the story, is an insanely likable and interesting character. The story is compelling and wholesome, set in a world with high tech where humans usually have some kind of supernatural abilities.

Summary

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun is a spinoff series that focuses on the third strongest Level 5 esper, Misaka Mikoto, also called Tokiwadai’s Ace due to being at the top of Academy City.

Misaka gets into real trouble after investigating rumors about the existence of Level 5 clones purposedly used for horrid experiments.

1. The Seven Deadly Sins (Nanatsu no Taizai)

Why?

My current shounen fav! I can’t describe how much I am loving this anime right now. I binged watched Seven Deadly Sins in 2 days (24 episodes). I’m on Season 2 already… that might tell you how good this series is. It’s an adventurous battle-fueled shounen with a diverse cast of characters who are all unique personality/ability-wise.

Summary

The Seven Deadly Sins were once an active group of knights in the region of Britannia, who disbanded after they supposedly plotted to overthrow the Liones Kingdom. Their supposed defeat came at the hands of the Holy Knights, but rumors continued to persist that they were still alive. Ten years later, the Holy Knights became cruel and tyrannical rulers of the kingdom.

The third princess, Elizabeth Liones embarks on the journey to find the Seven Deadly Sins in the hope to overthrow the current rulers of the kingdom with their help.
