10 Best Should-Watch Anime Like Black Clover

Black Clover is an incredibly popular shounen TV series. In many ways, the show embodies the struggles of its lead character. Asta transforms from the town’s laughingstock to the kingdom’s actual savior. Endearing characters, an intriguing universe, and thrilling action scenes make it an enjoyable watch. No wonder fans want to find more gripping anime like Black Clover.

The manga was illustrated and written by Yūki Tabata and it received an anime adaptation that aired between 2017 and 2021 by Studio Pierrot (Boruto, Tokyo Ghoul, Yona of the Dawn).

The main character of the anime is Asta, a young orphan who, along with Yuno, lived in an orphanage from the time of their birth. Although they are rivals, the two genuinely care for one another and share the dream of becoming the Wizard King, which is a title given to the strongest mage in the Kingdom.

Despite having been raised together, Yuno possesses incredible magic power from an early age, whereas Asta is mana-less, rendering him useless in a world that depends heavily on magical powers. Given Yuno’s talent and Asta’s non-existing flow of mana, one would likely give up. But Asta never does. He engages in rigorous physical training every single day.

Driven by their shared desire to succeed the current Wizard King, they set out on a journey to become Magic Knights.

8. Toaru Majutsu no Index (A Certain Scientific Index)

  • Genres: Action, Magic, Sci-Fi, Super Power
  • Episodes: 24

In a world filled with sci-fi-induced powers and magic exists the main character who is deemed worthless because of having no magical power. Instead, he has the power to nullify magical powers!

A Certain Magical Index is set in a world where supernatural abilities are a reality. Individuals who possess special powers acquired via science are called Espers. Those Espers who gain their abilities without the aid of special scientific instruments, whether at birth or otherwise, are referred to as Gemstones. Others, known as Sorcerers, gain their powers upon mastering the power of magic, either from obtaining knowledge from different mythologies or by using mystical artifacts, though the existence of sorcerers is a secret to the public. While Sorcerers align themselves with different beliefs, Espers are aligned with scientific institutions. This leads to a power struggle between the magic and science factions for control of the world.

7. One Piece

  • Genres: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Super Power, Drama, Fantasy, Shounen
  • Episodes: 936, ongoing

Both series are great ongoing shounen titles with a solid storyline, exciting fight scenes, and a lot of focus on friendship and scenes that touch people emotionally.

They feature an MC who is a naive and kind-hearted person with a goal to become someone important while refusing to give up no matter what.

Gol D. Roger was known as the “Pirate King,” the strongest and most infamous being to have sailed the Grand Line. The capture and execution of Roger by the World Government brought a change throughout the world. His last words before his death revealed the existence of the greatest treasure in the world, One Piece. It was this revelation that brought about the Grand Age of Pirates, men who dreamed of finding One Piece—which promises an unlimited amount of riches and fame—and quite possibly the pinnacle of glory and the title of the Pirate King.

Enter Monkey D. Luffy, a 17-year-old boy who defies your standard definition of a pirate. 6. Hunter x Hunter

  • Genres: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Shounen, Super Power
  • Episodes: 148

Hunter x Hunter is another long-running shounen anime like Black Clover. People draw parallels between the characters’ distinctive abilities and amazing fighting sequences. Not to mention that they start with an exam to become a hunter/magic knight.

Like Asta, Hunter x Hunter’s Gon is your typical shounen protagonist with a dream to achieve. Additionally, he has a close friend who is talented from the start.

Hunter x Hunter is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by one and only Yoshihiro Togashi.

Gon and his friends are the main characters of the narrative, especially his best friend Killua, who was a kid assassin before taking the hunter exam. Killua and Gon eventually obtain Hunter licenses, a title that comes with advantages that make it simpler to locate people, animals, or treasures.

Killua decides to join Gon on his quest of finding his missing father, who is also a Hunter.

5. Ao no Exorcist

  • Genres: Action, Demons, Fantasy, Shounen, Supernatural
  • Episodes: 25

Similar to Black Clover, Ao no Exorcist is an anime set in a world with magic. It features two childhood friends raised like brothers by a priest. One of them is more composed and loved by everyone, while the other is happy but despised with a demon ability.

Ao no Exorcist follows Rin Okumura who appears to be an ordinary, somewhat troublesome teenager—that is until one day he is ambushed by demons. His world turns upside down when he discovers that he is, in fact, the very son of Satan and that his demon father wishes for him to return so they can conquer Assiah together.

Not wanting to join the king of Gehenna, Rin decides to begin training to become an exorcist so that he can fight to defend Assiah alongside his brother Yukio.

4. Fairy Tail

  • Genres: Magic, Adventure, Comedy, Shounen, Fantasy, Action
  • Episodes: 175

People often say that Fairy Tail is a very similar anime to Black Clover. I can see why since they are both long-running shounen anime that take place in a magical world. Even better, magical users group together in guilds/squads and go on missions.

There will be a ton of incredible battles, as well as themes of rivalry, friendship, and lofty ideals.

Fairy Tail is set in the enchanting country of Fiore, where magic is a necessary component of daily life. Mages unite in various magical guilds, which can be dark or warm-hearted like Fairy Tail. Fairy Tail is renowned for its cohesiveness, strength, and great attitude. For payment, guild members accept job offers and work together to complete missions.

Lucy Heartfilia is a young mage who is looking for celestial gate keys. She hopes to join the prestigious guild Fairy Tail in order to fulfill her ambition of becoming a proper wizard. In an unexpected turn of events, she encounters Natsu and is rescued by him after being abducted; shortly after, she learns that he is a Fairy Tail member.

3. Bleach

  • Genres: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Super Power, Supernatural, Shounen
  • Episodes: 366

Both are long-running shounen anime with fascinating powers, a lot of cool battle scenes, and funny as well as darker undertones. With their dark powers, the MCs will stop at nothing to keep their comrades safe.

Ichigo Kurosaki is a high schooler who lives in a small city called Karakura town. Since he was a little child, he has had the ability to sense hollows and ghosts.

One seemingly usual day, he encounters a Soul Reaper and unexpected things happen. Ichigo somehow ends up becoming a Soul Reaper himself. With the newly acquired power, he can now defend the community against hollows.

2. Boku no Hero Academia

  • Genres: Comedy, Superpower, Action, School, Shounen
  • Episodes: 13

Fans who like Black Clover’s humor and ideal will love BNHA. The MCs share a lot of similarities. Both are beginning as underdogs with no power, train hard, develop the strongest power, and have absurdly high goals.

Izuku Midoriya, a young boy, is well known as “the boy without the quirk”. Quirks are special powers that are fairly common in the BNHA Universe. He idolizes and adores pro heroes—superhumanly strong people with the most potent Quirks—who protect cities and their citizens from villains.

Despite knowing that he is weak and “useless”, he vows to become a pro hero like the ones he admires.

1. Naruto

  • Genres: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Super Power, Martial Arts, Shounen
  • Episodes: 220

Black Clover and Naruto are like brothers. They were created by the same studio (Pierrot) and feature a headband-wearing, outcast adolescent who was raised as an orphan.

Similar to Asta, Naruto has a good heart but is loud and silly with a “never give up” mentality. Because of his demonic power and the misunderstandings that result from it, he is disliked. Even though he could be angry about it, he remains upbeat and works hard to fulfill his goals related to becoming the most powerful ninja.

Naruto is a young aspiring ninja who doesn’t get any acknowledgment or acceptance from the other villagers. On the contrary, he is hated by almost everyone in the Hidden Leaf Village. But not even that can stop him from pursuing his dream of becoming the Hokage, the village’s leader.
