10 Anime Characters Who Have Gorgeous Red Eyes

One would think that having characters with blue, brown, or green eyes is enough. Not true! Anime is known for having characters with all sorts of crazy eye colors like purple, yellow, red, pink, or whatever color comes to your mind. Anime characters with fiery red eyes are among my personal favorites.

I honestly enjoy this diversity. Many fiery characters seem to also have red eyes, so it seems to be matching the description of red color lots of times. It’s a hot, strong, stimulating color that represents excitement and energy.

Let’s take a look at the top 10 anime characters who have red eyes!

10. Shana (Shakugan no Shana)

Who could represent the red color better than Shana?

This red-haired girl is a former human that has made a contract with a Crimson Lord to gain power in order to protect the balance of the world.

Upon invoking her powers as a Flame Haze, her hair and eyes change color to a fiery crimson with embers fluttering from her head down.

She is the absolute representation of being fiery and there isn’t a better color to match her personality either. Shana is definitely on the side of good, but she can be pretty abrasive. And on top of everything, she is a tsundere!

9. Iskandar (Fate/Zero)

He is the servant of Waver Velvet during the Fourth Holy Grail War.

Anime-wise, Iskandar only appeared in Fate/Zero.

Iskandar is a noble and athletic “bro type” of a servant. He would rather talk it out than fight and pointlessly kill someone. He also shows great respect to both his allies and enemies if he considers them worthy. Iskandar is also the only Servant who considers resolving the Grail Wars without violence so that speaks volumes about his personality.

8. Inori Yuzuriha (Guilty Crown)

Who doesn’t love a soft-looking beauty with a voice like an angel? That’s Inori for you.

She is a very quiet girl and first appears emotionless, following only the Funeral Parlor’s leader’s orders. This changes after she meets a boy called Shu who gradually makes her smitten with him. This causes her to understand what means to be a human and that even someone like her can experience a range of emotions like any ordinary human being. She becomes more open and friendly thanks to him.

I would say that the most defining trait of her is loyalty to people she cares about, which is proved multiple times throughout the series. This makes her a perfect waifu.

7. Motoko Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell)

I felt like I have to include her here even though she has a different eye color in films. In Stand Alone Complex adaptation, she has vividly red eyes, so I chose to include her.

Major Motoko is a cyborg and the head of the assault team of the Japanese task force titled Section 9, which patrols for and works against acts of cyber-terrorism.

If you have never heard about the Ghost in the Shell franchise, Motoko is the definition of a ghost in the shell. She is a cyborg with a fully synthetic body (shell) and the only thing that makes her human is her ghost (soul, consciousness).

Motoko is fearless, confident, and independent. She is a lone wolf fully dedicated to completing her job duties. Although she has a cold attitude and is not fazed easily, she still cares about (some) people.

6. Akame (Akame ga Kill!)

Akame is one of the most powerful characters from Akame ga Kill!

Trained as an assassin, she endured hellish training. This influenced both her personality and expressions since she has a serious expression almost all the time and kills her enemies in cold blood. However, there is a more fragile version of Akame hidden behind this merciless mask. She deeply cares about her comrades and this is probably the only weakness she has.

She is a huge foodie and loves to have some danger-beasts and fish, so if you want her as your waifu you better learn to cook those. 😀

5. Juuzou Suzuya (Tokyo Ghoul)

When I saw Juuzou I thought: finally someone who wears hairpins just like me. 😀 But really, he has an extremely unique character design. Having pale skin, red eyes, snow-white hair, and red stitches all over his body. And he is sporting those adorable red hairpins too!

But enough about the looks. Juuzou is often labeled as crazy but I would not call him that. He has a traumatizing past behind him which caused him to act emotionally distant towards people and merciless towards ghouls. But could we really blame him?

I am not going to spoil details, but it’s painfully obvious that he cares about people who truly care about him, like his work partner and superior, Shinohara. So, in the end, he is able to reciprocate those feelings to a certain extent even though he is not good at showing it.

4. Mashiro Shiina (Sakura-sou no Pet na Kanojo)

Mashiro delivers many hilarious moments in Sakura-sou no Pet na Kanojo.

She’s cute but also domestically helpless to the point the main character has to help with dressing herself otherwise she would go to school naked. However, she is being insanely good at anything she puts her mind to, so that seems to compensate for her lack of common sense in normal life.

It seems like Mashiro suffers from high-functioning autism but that has not been confirmed and she just might be eccentric or extremely sheltered.

3. Senku Ishigami (Dr. Stone)

Senku, Dr. Stone’s highly intelligent protagonist, is one of the reasons why the franchise has become so popular.

One would think that if you are a literal genius you might be looking down on others but this could be further from the truth in the case of Senku. He never belittles those who are less knowledgeable than him. Instead, he encourages and inspires everyone around him to do better.

And yes, he has flaws. He is terrible with women!

2. Holo (Spice & Wolf)

I admit that I made a mistake in choosing a normal-looking Holo instead of choosing a picture with her fluffy ears and tail.

While she looks like a human, she is actually a wolf deity. And that comes with all sorts of desired traits, ranging from immortality through playfulness to being adorable.

Fun fact: Holo is the 4th most popular girl with brown hair on MaL.

1. Megumin (KonoSuba)

It’s hard to not include one of the most popular female characters of all time in this list. Not only is she among the most popular anime characters with red eyes but she also comes from one of the most popular isekai—KonoSuba.

With more than 39k people choosing her as their favorite character on MAL, this place is more than deserved for this explosion-obsessed loli.

Fans praise her for her cuteness, design, and even character, saying that these traits make her one of the most distinctive characters. Simply put, it’s difficult not to fall in love with Megumin!
