For all fans or newcomers in the Toaru universe, welcome!

For those who don’t know what’s Toaru about, it’s series that are set in a world where supernatural abilities exist. There are two ways of acquiring special powers: through science (individuals called Espers) & through mastering the power of magic (individuals called Sorcerers).

Toaru Majutsu no Index focuses on the power struggle between these two factions, while Railgun & Accelerator series focus almost purely on scientific issues.

To make it very simple for you I am going to explain in detail the Toaru series you can watch.

All of the ones below got adapted into anime, with Index having three seasons, Railgun having three seasons too, and Accelerator having one season.

1. Toaru Majutsu no Index/ A Certain Magical Index

Toaru Majutsu no Index is a Japanese light novel series written by Kazuma Kamachi and illustrated by Kiyotaka Haimura.

It’s the main story of the Toaru Universe, albeit not the most popular. Since the Toaru series below are intertwined with Index, it’s advisable to watch at least S1.

Index series focuses way more on the magic side of the Toaru Universe.

The main protagonist is Touma Kamijou.

2. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun/ A Certain Scientific Railgun

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun is a Japanese manga series written by Kazuma Kamachi and illustrated by Motoi Fuyukawa. It’s a spin-off of Toaru Majutsu no Index with events taking place before and during the events of Toaru Majutsu no Index.

Railgun series focuses more on the scientific side of the Toaru Universe.

The main heroine is Misaka Mikoto.

3. Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator/ A Certain Scientific Accelerator

Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator is a Japanese manga series written by Kazuma Kamachi and illustrated by Arata Yamaji. It’s a spin-off of Toaru Majutsu no Index.

Accelerator series focuses more on the scientific side of the Toaru Universe.

The main protagonist is Accelerator.

I know that the Toaru series might be a bit confusing, but no worries, I have a guide on how to watch the Toaru series whether you love Misaka Mikoto, Accelerator, or Index (alternately hate).

There are 2 popular ways how to watch the Toaru series:

  1. You are going to either follow the canon order (basically how it happened according to manga),
  2. Or you choose the order where you skip annoying Index.

The Easiest Guide on How to Watch Toaru

If you love Misaka Mikoto: Index Railgun → Railgun S → Railgun T.

If you love Accelerator: Index → Railgun S → Index II → Index III Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator.

If you love Index: Index → Index II → Index Movie → Index III.

How to Watch Toaru if You Love Railgun/Accelerator and Dread Index

1. Toaru Majutsu no Index 1-9 episodes – a necessary evil to understand Mikoto’s story,

2. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (S1) – pretty self-explanatory, this is the first season of our beloved Misaka-sama!

3. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun OVA – the events happen after the Level Upper Arc (the Level Upper Arc takes place in Toaru Kagaku no Railgun),

4. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun Episode 13′ Being a Photo Shoot Model Under the Hot Sun Isn’t Easy, Is It? (OVA)

3. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S (S2) – Sister’s arc and a lot of Accelerator’s scenes,

4. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S OVA – we are all in love with Mikoto so obviously even this short OVA is a blessing,

5. Toaru Majutsu no Index S2 – you don’t have to watch it but it’s recommended,

6. Toaru Majutsu no Index: endymion No Kiseki – a movie, again optional but I recommend to not bother,

7. Toaru Majutsu no Index S3 – again you don’t have to watch it in my opinion but there are some interesting scenes with Accelerator, Touma, and a bit of Mikoto,

8. Toaru Kagaku No Accelerator – Accelerator is an absolute bae and you should definitely watch it!

9. Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T (S3) – the return of our sweetie Mikoto.
