6 Anime Similar To The Misfit of Demon King Academy

The Misfit od Demon King Academy (Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha: Shijou Saikyou no Maou no Shiso, Tensei shite Shison-tachi no Gakkou e) is an anime that is currently still airing (11/7/2020).

It follows the story of Anos, the Demon King of Tyranny, who has defeated humans, elementals, spirits, gods, and fought countless wars. Tired of all the fighting, he decides to reincarnate, hoping to see a more peaceful world.

2000 years later he gets reincarnated only to find out that the world has become too peaceful and his descendants have grown really weak.

Similarities

Both anime take place mainly at some sort of Academy for students with special abilities (Mana users/ Demons). The students compete, mock each other, and take a lot of pride in winning. The male protagonists are overpowered and have a similar flashy look.

Synopsis

The main heroine, Melida Angel is an aristocrat young lady born in a world where a lot depends on the power only aristocrats possess – mana. Despite this, Melida seems to not have any mana and hence is assigned a tutor named Kufa who is supposed to teach her how to improve her skills and gain mana.

As per the request, Kufa’s task is not only to tutor his student but also to evaluate if she really is talentless – and if she really is he has to assassinate her.

5. Overlord

Similarities

Overlord and The Misfit of Demon Academy have a very overpowered main character who can do whatever he wants. There is also the use of magic in both anime.

Synopsis

The final hour of the popular virtual reality game Yggdrasil has come. However, Momonga, a powerful wizard and master of the dark guild Ainz Ooal Gown, decides to spend his last few moments in the game as the servers begin to shut down. To his surprise, despite the clock having struck midnight, Momonga is still fully conscious as his character and the non-player characters appear to have developed personalities of their own!

Confronted with this abnormal situation, Momonga commands his loyal servants to help him investigate and take control of this new world, with the hopes of figuring out what has caused this development and if there may be others in the same predicament.

Similarities

The main characters of these anime are both “reborn” as demons. Apart from that, they wield insanely powerful abilities and are basically undefeatable. They also have a small harem of two attractive girls.

Synopsis

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord centers around a story of Sakamoto also referred to as the Demon King who is a shut-in gamer ending up transported into a fantasy world with the appearance of his character from the game he had been previously playing.

3. Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry (Chivalry of a Failed Knight)

  • Episodes: 12

Similarities

Both of them are set at school where is a lot of competition between students who use magic. The main characters are both viewed as inferior to arrogant elite students only to prove them wrong with a style.

Synopsis

Ikki Kurogane goes to a school for the Magic Knights but he is known as the Worst One who because he has low magical skills. One day, he is challenged to a duel by the Number One student, Stella. The one who loses must be obedient to the winner for life.

2. Hataraku Maou-sama! (The Devil is a Part-Timer!)

Similarities

The main characters of both series are extremely powerful demon lords who get to live in a completely different world than they used to.

Synopsis

An unfortunate turn of events causes Satan to transport into a modern-day Tokyo where he starts a part-time job in a fast-food restaurant.

1. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular at Magic High School)

  • Genres: Action, Sci-Fi, Supernatural, Magic, Romance, Schoo
  • Episodes: 26

Similarities

If you enjoy extremely overpowered and cool main character with similar looks and cold/ badass attitude, you hit the nail! The main characters in both series are greatly underestimated by their opponents, only to end up destroyed and ridiculed by their overwhelming power.

Both of these anime also take place at magic school where students are divided by a flawed system and wear different uniforms (the weaker and stronger ones).

Synopsis

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei follows the siblings, Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba, who are enrolled in First High School. Upon taking the exam, the prodigious Miyuki is placed in the First Course, while Tatsuya is relegated to the Second Course. Though his practical test scores and status as a “Weed” show him to be magically inept, he possesses extraordinary technical knowledge, physical combat capabilities, and unique magic techniques—making Tatsuya the irregular at a magical high school.
