We can all agree that there are many handsome anime characters. I mean, many of them are drawn and animated to become waifus and husbands. This is no news for anime fans and many complain about too much fan service in certain anime that add no value. While that’s true, there are still that many if not more enjoyers of incredibly sexy anime characters. But what about masked anime characters who are just as attractive even with their mask on?
I conducted research to find the top 10, but feel free to share any that I may have missed in the comments below!
These 10 masked anime characters can pull off both with and without the mask!

10. Gin Akutagawa
- Anime: Bungou Stray Dogs
Despite looking so casual in her normal outfit, Gin is actually a member of an underground criminal organization.
This dark-haired beauty operates as one of Black Lizard’s commanders, and rightfully. Since she is a very stealthy and quiet person, it makes her a perfect fit for an assassin who can quickly ambush anyone.
9. Feitan Portor
- Anime: Hunter x Hunter
If I had to pick my absolute favorite from masked anime characters, it would be Feitan. He has sick design and abilities and comes from one of the best anime ever created, Hunter x Hunter.
This shortie is a member of the Phantom Troupe, an infamous gang of thieves with class-A bounties. Out of 13 members of the Phantom Troupe, his physical strength ranks fifth in the group.
Feitan is a completely cold-natured sadist and serves as the main interrogator for Phantom Troupe because of his proficient skill in torture. With all that being said, he is extremely loyal to the leader of Phantom Troupe, as well as the whole Phantom Troupe.

8. Toge Inumaki
- Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen
Toge is a second-year high schooler at Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College. He is a respected semi-grade 1 sorcerer, and one of the most talented and powerful jujutsu students.
He appears as a very timid and distant boy at first since he doesn’t speak. The real reason behind that is his cursed technique called “Snake and Fangs”. So basically he doesn’t speak it to prevent accidentally cursing someone with his enchanted words.
Behind this somewhat aloof persona hides his real, caring, and protective self which is revealed only if you get to know him closely.

7. Ririka Momobami
- Anime: Kakegurui
Ririka is the Vice President of the Student Council at Hyakkaou Private Academy.
She appears stoic and quiet at first glance and is very shy and socially awkward without her mask on. Apart from that, she is quite a skilled gambler.
The real reason behind her mask is sad, though. She got abused by her family mentally, forced to follow her twin sister in silence, and while wearing a mask because her family “erased” her entire existence. She eventually learned to mimic her twin sister so perfectly that no one could tell them apart, even during family meetings.
6. Gojo Satoru
- Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen
Another Jujutsu Kaisen character on the list, yay!
Satoru is a special-grade jujutsu sorcerer and a teacher at the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical College.
He is normally seen as playful and carefree towards his students, close colleagues, and friends. This changes quickly when he faces enemies or people he doesn’t care about, to the point of him becoming cruel and cold.
Satoru is incredibly self-confident in his abilities, to the point of becoming arrogant during his battles, often mocking his enemies. He believes that he is the strongest person in the world.
Indeed, Satoru is said to be the strongest sorcerer in the series, holding both immense amounts of cursed energy and a dangerously powerful technique called Limitless.
5. Gin
- Anime: Hotarubi no Mori e
The main protagonist of one of the saddest and most emotional movies, Gin. He is a very gentle and kind soul.
Gin is neither human nor spirit. This is because he got abandoned in the forest as a child, and the Mountain God managed to save his life at a very heavy cost – if he gets touched by another human, his existence ceases. Since that day, he has lived with other spirits. He had no interaction with humans until he met a little girl lost in the forest, and they would bond every summer, as she aged.
4. Ken Kaneki
Anime: Tokyo Ghoul
Kaneki is without a doubt one of the most popular anime characters. This is probably caused by his personality and appearance change – he transforms from a naive average looking high-schooler into a really powerful beast really fast.
While I can agree that he is rather badass, he is also very protective of people or ghouls precious to him and tries to solve not only his inner conflict but also the conflict between these two sides.
3. Hei
- Anime: Darker than Black
Hei is a human who gained Contractor powers. He possesses the ability to generate and discharge electricity through conductive media, and can efficiently kill even grown adults.
As a member of an organization that operates behind the scenes at many levels, he is often spotted wearing a mask and taking on false identities and personas for his missions and day-to-day life.
He could be described as a calculating assassin with a huge appetite. Although he seems rather carefully distant, he still has normal human emotions, such as love for his missing sister.
2. Kakashi Hatake
- Anime: Naruto
Who would make a better #2 than Kakashi?
One of the most talented ninjas in Konoha, and regularly looked to for advice and leadership despite his own dislike, he certainly deserves this spot.
Kakashi also worked as a teacher and trained the famous Team 7, which consisted of Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke. After the Fourth Shinobi World War, he became the Sixth Hokage.
Despite being one of the coolest Naruto characters, he is still haunted by traumatizing memories from his childhood, which are related to his own team while training.
“In the ninja world, those who break the rules are scum, that’s true, but those who abandon their friends are worse than scum.” – Kakashi Hatake

1. Lelouch Lamperouge
- Anime: Code Geass
There can be only one king among the best masked anime characters. And the top spot in this category belongs to none other than the protagonist of Code Geass, Lelouch Lamperouge.
He is the most popular anime character on MAL, with more than 163k people choosing him as their all-time favorite character.
I absolutely adore him, personality & look-wise.
Lelouch, also known as Zero later, is first introduced as a carefree and easy-going high schooler. Nothing out of the ordinary. Despite that, we later find out that he has a really dark past behind him and after he acquires an extremely powerful ability, Geass, he decides to take revenge on those who wronged him. And that means obliterating Britannia.
What makes him so popular is probably a combination of his high intelligence, relatability, and charisma. I mean, he is the one who is respected by many leaders and soldiers alike, thanks to his convincing demeanor.
