But if you enjoy Detective Conan as a whole, it’s certainly worth considering. Just be aware that it’s a lot of time investment.

After catching up on the Detective Conan anime, I’d watch the entire Magic Kaito spinoff series in one go instead of splitting it up. As previously explained, Gosho started it before Detective Conan, but as Detective Conan became more popular, the mangaka shifted his attention to a more successful series. He also mentioned that despite frequent crossovers, both series are alternate universes. Therefore, Kaito from Magic Kaito is not the same as Kaito from DC, even though they look and act the same.
There is also Detective Conan: Zero’s Tea Time, a series of 6 short episodes, 13 minutes each, about Tooru Amuro’s triple life when Conan isn’t involved. It’s more of a fan service show, though. For that reason, you should watch this spinoff only if you are interested in this particular character.
Where to watch Detective Conan
Detective Conan is available on multiple online streaming platforms, although they vary in how many seasons or movies, OVAs, and TV Specials they have available.
You can stream Detective Conan legally on:
- Amazon Prime Video: You can stream the first five seasons (1-134) and almost all DC movies plus Magic Kaito on Amazon Prime Video. Standalone Prime Video membership costs $8.99 per month, and the library has more than 200 anime titles. On top of that, it offers more than 16k movies and around 2000 TV shows.
- Crunchyroll: You can watch the first 123 episodes, plus episodes 754 and onwards, and also the movie 5 and onwards (except for movies 18 and 23). From early 2022, to watch new and continuing simulcasts, a premium monthly or annual subscription will be necessary. However, previously published episodes will remain available to all user types. Those who want to see episodes of new or ongoing series must subscribe to one of Crunchyroll’s premium plans, which start at $7.99 per month. Crunchyroll offers more than 1k anime titles, although not all are available worldwide due to licensing restrictions.
To conclude, I generally agree with this amazing DC guide, and for more about the tv series, I recommend checking out this DC website.
