I have always been a bit obsessed with my avatars. Many of you know how much I love to customize my 9 Tailed Kitsune’s avatars, and I make her look kind of like me, with green eyes & brown hair while also adding cute cat/fox ears.
But how about getting a custom anime portrait of the actual me?
To be honest, I was really excited when LuluCartoons reached out. The first thing I did was look at their website, where I discovered that they offer many lovely custom portrait styles at reasonable prices. Your photo will be turned into a gorgeous hand-drawn portrait in one of their many available styles.
I am digging the versatility!
It takes a lot of effort and skill to create an anime character off of your real portrait, so I adore artists that can accomplish that. I became even more interested in how my portrait would turn out after reading many positive reviews from happy customers on their website.
How does LuluCartoons work?
It’s easy.
First, you will choose the style of your portrait on their website. There are many options available, but if you still don’t find exactly what you’re looking for, you may select a custom anime portrait and specify the aesthetics you want to be present in your portrait. This is what I did since I wanted the Toaru vibes.
Then you are also free to include drawing notes with other details like clothes, height difference (if you are getting for example 2 people) and anything else. Make sure to specify all important details!
You will also be prompted to select the number of figures (people, pets, etc.) that will appear on the portrait. The cost of the portrait slightly rises with each additional figure. For instance, the custom anime portrait is currently $44.99, but if you add one additional figure, the total price will be $59.99.
If you are worried about whether you’ll like the portrait, you don’t have to be. They guarantee unlimited free revisions if you need something modified until you are happy with the portrait.
The digital portraits are emailed to you in 5 to 10 days on average, but you can also order physical prints as an add-on. After placing the style in your shopping cart, you’ll have this choice. Although delivery is free for the physical prints, you’ll need to wait additional 5–15 days.
My experience with LuluCartoons
I chose a custom anime portrait with the Toaru vibes (I really wanted a Toaru-like uniform) and these were the results.
It’s simply stunning!
She really does look like me… in anime!
She has a really cute and detailed face, and even the setting and school uniform are influenced by Toaru as I asked. Thanks to the artist who made it possible, she looks to me to be Toaru-like with a fresh uniqueness to her.
The portrait only needed one adjustment (I wanted to tweak her eye color and body frame), and the entire process took less than five days, revision included!
Given how well she turned out, I’ll probably crop the portrait and use her as my anime avatar/pfp for my author box.
