The world of Masahi Kishimoto’s Naruto is a truly amazing one. Not only is it one of the “Big Three” manga and anime series, but it is also one of the most influential works ever to have come out of Japan. To this day, fans still bicker about what Naruto clans rank among the strongest, even though the original series has ended. For those who haven’t watched it yet, there is a ton load of chapters to read and episodes to watch, and the adventures of Naruto Uzumaki and his allies are still, years after the original manga ended, inspiring fans around the world, as well as attracting new ones on a daily basis. The franchise is still alive thanks to Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, which is a sequel focused on Naruto’s son, Boruto Uzumaki. And no, Naruto is not dead, do not worry, he’s alive and well in Boruto as well.
In this article, though, we are going to dig a bit deeper into the lore of the Naruto franchise, as we are going to talk about the Clans of the franchise. The Clans (in Japanese, they are called ichizoku) are a vital element of the franchise – they are, in the loosest sense of the term, a family or group of shinobi who form a basic unit of a shinobi village. In this article, we are going to rank the strongest Clans in the franchise.
Here are the 10 strongest Naruto Clans!
10. Akimichi Clan
Most of their techniques are known to quickly deplete the user’s chakra reserves, tiring them out very quickly during a fight. This is the reason why the Akimichi tend to eat a lot, even before a fight, in order to constantly replenish their chakra reserves. This is why the clan symbol, inscribed on most members’ outfits, is the stylized kanji for the word “food”.
If the usual techniques are not sufficient during a fight, an Akimichi can use the Three Colored Pills to convert excess fat into chakra, but at his own risk: the pills, in particular the last one, the red one, are extremely harmful to the human body and their consumption can lead to death.
9. Kaguya Clan
The Kaguya could control the growth of their bones, and their bodies were reinforced with a very tough skeleton. In the fights, their injuries were rarely very serious and few. The Kaguya could also form bone cartilages to strengthen their bodies in the event of destructive attacks.
Geniuses like Kimimaro could use their gifts in a very natural way but it seems that there was a genetic disease among the Kaguya which prevented them from living long, as they died very young. The Kaguya fought with dances; it is graceful taijutsu focused on using their techniques to knock bones out of their body for use in close combat.
8. Sarutobi Clan
Members of this clan seem capable of mastering high-ranking techniques, such as Hiruzen Sarutobi, Asuma Sarutobi, and Konohamaru Sarutobi who was able to master A-rank techniques such as Multi Cloning and Rasengan, despite his young age.
To strengthen the unity between the Akimichi, Nara, and Yamanaka clans, it became a tradition for a member of this clan to become the master of the Ino-Shika-Chō formations, succeeding each other through the generations, and to offer them earrings when they took the oath. Asuma Sarutobi was notably the master of the last generation Ino-Shika-Chō.
7. Kazekage Clan
The most prominent trait of the members of this clan is their Wind Release, which is nothing strange since all members of Sunagakure are skilled in Wind Release. But, some selected members are also gifted, through inheritance, with the rare and extremely powerful Magnet Release kekkei genkai.
This technique is quite special and they can use it to manipulate large quantities of various mineral substances in order to cover the battlefield and overwhelm their opponents in battle.
6. Nara Clan
Although considered geniuses, the men we know from this clan are very lazy and difficult to motivate. Ironically, Shikaku and Shikamaru tend to be attracted to stern, overbearing women. However, they seem to hold women in high esteem, and are, thus, devoted to them. Shikaku tells his son that “Men wouldn’t come into the world without women. And most of them can’t do anything without a woman by their side.
Even the most undrinkable women show kindness towards the man who knew how to seduce them.” The Nara clan seems to have special ties with the Akimichi and Yamanaka clans. For at least two generations, members of these three families have formed an Ino-Shika-Chō trio, named after the beginning of each member’s name. The “Shika” are members of the Nara clan.
5. Uzumaki Clan
Members of the Uzumaki clan were excellent fūinjutsu masters and users. This reputation earned them worldwide great fame, but also fear and respect, which ultimately led to the destruction of Uzushio and the rest of the Land of Whirlpools. With the destruction of their homeland, the survivors fled the country, changed identities, and scattered across the world.
The members of this clan have longevity and very strong vitality, moreover, one of the remarkable cases of this clan is that of Mito Uzumaki, who lived from before the foundation of Konoha until the appointment of Hiruzen Sarutobi as Hokage. This vitality was the reason Kushina survived the Kyūbi extraction, although significantly weakened after childbirth.
4. Hyuga Clan
Clan members are initiated into the art of the Soft Fist, or Jūken, relying on the ability of the Byakugan to perceive the chakra circulatory system. The user can thus precisely target certain parts of the body to prevent this circulation from taking place. The training necessary to master the Jūken requires excellent chakra control.
The most powerful techniques specific to the clan, such as the 64 Fists of the Hakke, are only taught to members of the Sōke. Neji Hyūga, however, defied this restriction and taught himself these techniques, earning the reputation of “genius”.
3. Senju Clan
The Senju clan was known as one of the most powerful ninja clans. This was certainly due to their ancestry, the oldest ancestor of which was the Rikudō Sennin himself. Many talents were born in the Senju clan, such as Hashirama Senju and Tobirama Senju, the first two Hokage of Konoha.
They had all received the body of the Rikudō Sennin, giving them incredible physical power and an indisputable talent in Taijutsu that could be deadly to the opponent (as shown by Tsunade’s power). The most important things they inherited from Rikudō Sennin were willpower and love, which were passed down through the generations of Konoha as the “Will of Fire”.
2. Uchiha Clan
As one of the strongest clans in Naruto, the Uchiha clan was only made up of excellent ninjas. The members of the clan were all gifted with natural genius, great intelligence, phenomenally powerful chakra (naturally tied to the Katon affinity), and the Sharingan.
It is obvious that their presence on the battlefield greatly strengthened Konoha. Today, the very name of Uchiha symbolizes power and fear.
1. Ōtsutsuki Clan
When asked which clans in Naruto are among the strongest, it’s clear as day that Ōtsutsuki Clan occupies the throne.
Described as a race of extraterrestrial parasites by Amado, the Ōtsutsuki evolved from the energy and genetic information that served as nutrients for chakra fruits when grown by their respective God Trees, granting them their divine power and longevity. Some Ōtsutsuki can even transform by consuming enough chakra or special forms of power, such as dōjutsu.
Momoshiki claimed that the greatest skill of the Ōtsutsuki is their ability to use chakra; a feat previously reserved for them before Hagoromo introduced it to humanity through the concept of ninshū. Thanks to it, humans can perform feats such as flying or concealing their presence.
