Is there even a chance that you haven’t heard of Redo of Healer yet? I don’t think so! This anime is a hit in sparking controversy.

Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi (Redo of Healer) is a Japanese light novel series written by Rui Tsukiyo and illustrated by Shiokonbu.

An anime TV series adaptation by TNK premiered in January 2021. It’s still airing.

It tells the story of Keyaru, a healing magician, who is exploited against his will by others endlessly.

After years he realizes the potential of healing magic and uses it on the world itself to go back four years into the past in order to redo everything and get revenge.

After the first episode was released, I even made an article about similar anime to it.

One would think that according to this description, it could be a really dark isekai anime. Which is true. Although, I personally have problems with it being classified as an anime. I will explain why below!

Redo of Healer’s Controversial Plot

So my biggest issue with this anime isn’t about the fact that it has too much a****, r***, and violence in it. My hugest problem is that it seems to be glorifying s**** a****. Everyone a**ses everyone from the beginning. (Almost) no one is innocent. And the a**s*ng hero gets away with it and even builds his own harem of slaves. And the a***e continues. What the heck?!

That ONE memorable scene you might have seen is Flare (the princess) getting r**** by Keyaru as a part of revenge. I mean, I get it – he endured the same a**se from her. But why the heck did have to do the same thing (or even worse) to her? Why did he have to continue this a**se of her by changing her face, erasing her memory, and making her his slave? She becomes his “doll” after that and follows him like a mindless loyal dog. This anime could provide some guidance about how to ruin an anime character.

Now, the controversy does not stop there. He gets more girl slaves and builds a harem. He gets some of them by lying too, and a**ses Flare further.

My personal problem is that he tricked Flare into thinking that she loves him because he modified her mind with his healing magic. Heck, he even changed her face so she looks more like his ideal girl. She did not change because of something relevant. She changed because the main character loves to get his revenge by using his overpowered magic and simply decided to ruin her. And he clearly enjoys it. This is shown in multiple scenes where he laughs about it inside while looking like a psycho. And she doesn’t realize this at all. She is happy to be a part of his harem and has no needs of her own. Her only needs and purpose are to serve him.

The worst scene for me is them sleeping together after he modified her mind and face. The reason for that is that he does not treat her right even though she is basically a different person after this change. Not only he tricks her into thinking that they are lovers, but he also dehumanizes her and demands from her to beg him for it by saying that she is his sow who wants a reward. Just never-ending a**se.

Could Redo of Healer be a good anime?

Definitely YES. It could have been a good dark isekai if the author did not build the whole anime around glorified a**se, harem, and hot naked anime girls with big bewbs.

Redo of Healer has a rating of 6.24 on MaL. More than 200k+ members on MaL too. There are tons of Redo of Healer wall scroll posters on Amazon. So clearly it is popular despite being meh. Just for comparison, Wonder Egg Priority has fewer members on MaL than this “anime”.

Don’t get me wrong. There can be physical/se**al a**se, mental to**ure, and other terrible things because they are real and we face them too in our world. But it needs to hold some meaning. It seems like the only purpose of these horrible scenes are ecchi borderline H scenes and shock value.

It could be a great anime if Kaeru mended their messed-up relationship and changed Flare in a ‘normal’ way. So we could actually see some character and relationship development. I was more than disappointed when I saw that he changed her face & mind. This basically ruined all my hopes for this anime. And I was right. It got only worse from there…

I can tell you that Redo of Healer is not a good anime, but it can be a somewhat watchable h*ntai. But why the hell is even anyone thinking that this is an anime? It clearly does not belong there. This anime seems to be blurring the line between anime and H in a way that I am confused about what’s even considered anime anymore.

Also, Redo of Healer has an uncensored version so we all know that classifying it as an anime is simply not right. This uncensored version is already uploaded to one of the biggest H sites – hanime.

Is Redo of Healer Canceled?

Partially, yes. Generally, NO!

AniMoon failed to secure a simulcast partner, and a German simulcast never debuted. So it was canceled in Germany. It’s still getting a disc release though at the end of 2021.

HOWEVER, it is still available on HDIVE, so it’s definitely not completely canceled as some sites seem to be claiming.

Also, Sentai announced that it had acquired exclusive rights to Redo of Healer. Sentai’s licensed territories include the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Greenland, Faroe, and Åland Islands, Scandinavia, Spain, Portugal, and Latin America.

Should it be canceled in your opinion? Let me know!

  1. Must be a market for this sort of stuff or it wouldn’t exist. Probably the dark fantasy of more than a few people.

Now if there were an arc where he gradually starts to regret what he did, maybe even goes mad from inner conflict. And maybe an arc where she starts to realize exactly what he did and starts to plot revenge upon his revenge.

It could get both darker and better at the same time.

  2. This series is another type of Hanime that is on another level, sensible view abstain yourself of ever glancing at it, its the type of Hanime for the adult audience whoa re familliar with tons of genra of hentai and this one is on mainstream market, the plot is like it say above, a guy with power who got abuse beyond what you can physically imagine, i would not love to have been in shoes at that moment of it all , the first time around the first six on the second time around, when he regain his sense , he take the most mean revenge but not as evil as the comments above says so, he torture his protagonist in the most painful way , but if you take in account that flare torture him servely and relentlessly , he went pretty lightly on her, hurting to a point that is not equivalent to what she did to him in both dimension , if you consider episode 7 he ask her if she is happy and she said yes, it was all that matter to her that is make him happy and she is happy so basically he gave her a purpose and made her very happy, his slave fell in love with him, the sword hero keraha fell also in love with him somewhat , so basically he redid his life and he doing his best to correct the corruption of the kingdom who did him wrong

    • Your not entirely wrong but at the same time he is a womanizer and doesn’t really care about anyone else. Ntm, that he did use aphrodisiac and essentially raped a character(keraha) that was essentially innocent. Reason why it is rape is because of the use of essentially a date rape drug and falls under Intoxicated Consent to Sexual Relations.
I guess because she didn’t complain afterwards it isn’t considered rape… yet. But honestly, still not a thing you want to do, period. So even if you justify the revenge rape he still is not innocent.

To sum it up, the main character is mentally broken and uses revenge rape to get back at people(whether directly or indirectly). And being insane doesn’t excuse the actions especially since

  3. This is the only Anime i Don’t like i hope they Don’t make Another season of this im already traumatized by this

  4. This show ironicly shows a person who got abused abusing others. This is actually common in the real world were the abused commonly becomes the abuser.
I hated it. The world was interesting. How the character uses his powers is unique and inventive. But I hated that revenge rape was basically his goto method of revenge. I hate how he treated the women like objects. I am not a fan of turning your enemies into your sex slaves via mind control. I feel sorry for the innocents involved. Outside from sexual abuse, I find the message of “revenge is good for you” to be very misleading. Unrestrained revenge does not solve problems. The fact he encouraged it in one of the episodes to help fuel a character and saying it was a good thing was comical. He lets his friend die rather than trying to protect him. Honestly, this main character is broken. He lets people die to help fuel his own revenge.
Revenge isn’t something you should ever enjoy in my opinion. The most you should ever get out of revenge is closure not happiness. This character is an example of what happens when you get pleasure from revenge. The reasonings for your revenge will dilute until you are just doing it for your own pleasure. We can see this as the main character lets his village die even though he could have implemented things a lot sooner. It was fairly clear that this character just wants to fuel his revenge.

If this was good for anything, it’s a good idea of what someone who was abused and becomes an abuser goes through.

I cringe every time I hear the nice song at the end.

    I am glad it’s over.

  5. I am watching this right now uncensored with a guy and two girl friends, and we are all touching ourselves to it. It’s hot as fuck. drool MORE !

  6. There are no two ways to say that this “anime” is definitely disturbing! and I understand the point of the author of this article regarding, glorifying perpetual abuse. But I wonder, when the author rightly pointed out – “I mean, I get it – he endured the same abuse from her. But why the heck did have to do the same thing (or even worse) to her? Why did he have to continue this abuse of her by changing her face, erasing her memory, and making her his slave? …”, what if the question is why not? we expect traditional “hero” to be able to restrain himself and to be kind in a way, towards his enemies, had keyaru stopped with that initial rape of flare, it would have been noble of him, heck to walk away from it would’ve been even more noble. But in reality such nobility is rare and often impractical (or may be not) but the point is, for keyaru, flare did much more than abuse, they took over his life forever, the fact that he suffered through hell shouldn’t be taken lightly, that can change a person from deep inside. This is seen more often in survivors of extreme conditions for example, war survivors or kids that go through traumatic events such as james bond himself. Morality has no substance for some one that spent an eternity (or their entire life) through hell. In that sense, this is one such rare unapologetic and true to the core sort of anime. I agree the scenes could definitely be less graphic but the point still stands that Keyaru is not a usual main character, he is the essence of “Evil” in a way. But how else can one fight evil without being one themselves? It’s like batman and superman, batman is no noble creature but superman on the other hand can afford to be noble. Similarly, keyaru’s reality was broken and he became something else entirely, more like Joker.

  7. I personally think its odd they won’t publish the light novel here in the Americas. Mainly because it is adult rated and there are soooooo many actual “romance” novels that portray sexual abuse amongst other fetishes like sexual torture, rape, incest, etc that re printed through big time publishers. Ever read anything by Bertrice Small or heres another example, Fifty Shades of Grey. There really is no difference and its actually hypocritical I’ve been reading a fan translation of Redo of Healer which so far isn’t as bad if it is indeed written word for word, as some would think in comparison to the anime portrayal. I’ve read far worse from the aforementioned author. Maybe its because the author is a male, that its getting so much controversy. If it was written by a woman, you know we’d be just fine with it. Besides It really has a decent story line and to be honest a second season wouldn’t be that terrible. 3/4 of the horror is pretty much already shown in season 1.

  8. Honestly I think that if you don’t like this particular series, then just don’t watch it. There is definitely people out there who enjoy this sort of anime/hentai, and are smart enough in the head to know that in reality, what he is doing is wrong. And either way, if they really want to watch some rape anime, then literally anything else on hentai websites will fit the bill and get straight to it compared to this one. I hate the people who say “Thank god this is over.” because that just implies you watched the whole thing while complaining to yourself and probably secretly enjoying it. If you don’t like doing something by choice-then don’t bloody do it. There should be a season 2 for the large amount of people out there who enjoy this series. There’s so much anime on random stuff like little girls in tanks and a crap ton of fantasy stuff, so why not have one anime that is based on a (albeit disturbing for some) plot like this? Oh and the overpowered action is very entertaining so don’t take that away from us too. Enjoy.

  9. First couple episodes are ok: revenge, going back in time etc, then it turns into generic harem with a little bit of hentai
I get that ideally Kyaru should be the “good guy” and take little (or no) revenge (hand his abusers to authorities? provide a quick painless death?) but 1) that would be boring 2) a young person submitted to 4 years of constant god knows what kind of abuse got probably a few screws loose
Speaking of abuse.. I think not changing/ suppressing Flare’s memory would be far worse punishment. Then she would know who she is. And be a slave.
