Ishuzoku Reviewers (Interspecies Reviewers) has become the best rated ecchi anime (ever) according to MAL’s users.
Or I thought. I checked today and it’s not the truth anymore – it went from 8.98 to 7.60 quite quickly and today I know the reason why. I mean I know why it deserved a rating of 7 and half more, but you get what I mean. MAL has actually changed its algorithm and the scores are being recalculated.
Anyways, thank god. This anime definitely does not deserve to be ranked among the top 20. Now it’s ranked #1531.
The anime is currently airing and going to have 12 episodes. It seems like it’s the most popular anime of winter 2020 with more than 140k members on MAL. This is actually pretty surprising.
The story is set in a world where various species coexist together and brothels, where all kinds of interspecies girls work, seem to be very prevalent. Furries, birdmaids, octopus-human hybrids, elves, succubuses, fairies… Literally, every species you have ever thought of taking a cute human hybrid form can be found there.
TLDR of the story: Stunk, along with Zel and a hermaphrodite angel Crim, reviews various brothels with different species and rate them 1-10 on a scroll which is later hung in a pub filled with various male creatures interested in their ratings (future research is important). 🙂
The scenes are very lewd and borderline hentai, mainly in the uncensored version.
Now you want to ask me – Is Ishuzoku Reviewers really THAT good?
And the answer is (drumrolls please) – NO. If I have to be extremely honest I would say that it’s extremely overrated.

The reviews of Ishuzoku Reviewers are really mixed. Some people rate this anime 4, others 9 or even 10. With such ambiguous ratings, it’s truly difficult to decide whether the anime is good or just overhyped and so I decided to watch it by myself before I form an opinion or prejudice.
The art and mainly the fan service scenes are filled with lewd and luscious girls (all sorts of human hybrids and creatures). This probably what you will love if you are into this sort of stuff.
The story itself is unique but becomes boring and repetitive quickly – I watch ecchi quite frequently, usually out of curiosity and I have never seen a similar premise. It’s funny to some extent (mainly if you like 7th-grade humor) and you don’t have to think much about what is going on.
You are rewarded with a lot of perverted scenes filled with beautiful females (and for fans of human hybrids this is a dream come true). As I stated previously, it’s borderline hentai. Let’s just say it’s not a typical ecchi, it’s crossing a line between ecchi and hentai and you would have a hard time explaining what you are watching to anyone who would look at your screen.
Another thing this anime does right is the diversity it contains – if you look for a deeper meaning, this anime shows us that all kinds of girls, no matter the age, shape, and race can find love and be adored.
Honestly though, if I look at masterpiece like Code Geass and compare it to this, there is no way this anime should be rated higher than the former. As of 12/2/2020, this is not true anymore, luckily. I was losing hope in humanity after seeing this anime ranked higher than anime like Kimetsu no Yaiba, Code Geass, or Made in Abyss.
I have to admit that Ishuzoku Reviewers could be rated around 7, but rating it 9 is, in my opinion, a bit silly. Maybe I’m too critical, but the characters are plain and underwhelming, and at times, unbearable and annoying. I can’t count how many times I wanted them to just shut up and disappear.
Just try to compare how developed are these characters and compare it for example to Hunter x Hunter characters, or any anime with well-developed characters.
TLDR: It’s not THAT good but if you love ecchi, fanservice, and all type of “interspecies” girls, it might be a perfect fit for you.
Totally agree. It has great ecchi content and is nicely presented but it doesn’t have a compelling storyline that will pull you through. I’d say it’s not even the best ecchi anime, but the current situation has brought out the mob to up vote it.
Yeah you are absolutely right.. it’s great visually but that’s it. I would honestly rate it like 6/10 or even lower 🙁
I’m sure it is quite pleasing to its intended audience, older teen and young adult guys. I thought the first episode was kind of fun for being really different but I quickly lost interest. Maybe in later episodes it will play around with gender identify more but for now it is a male cis-het fantsy with the angel tossed in as a plot device.
I feel like it is like softcore hentai.. it is obviously centered around fanservice but that is normal for ecchi… you can not usually expect much from the plot anyways. The plot is okayish and kinda unique but the characters are so annoying to me I can not continue to watch it even if I wanted to, lol.
Due to religious convictions this is one show that I won’t watch due to content, but even then by looking at it alone I knew it was just going to be another poor fanservice show. This kind of thing is the reason why people get turned off from anime.
I mean ecchi is usually like this, there is no other way around… I am yet to see some good ecchi! 😀
I watched the first two episodes before Funimation freaked out. I love the idea of a sex positive show.
But…
This one struck me as being sex-ist. Our protagonists were both guys except for the angel who is a bit of both. The idea of men going around and judging women based on how much they enjoyed sex with them and then writing reviews for other men.. uh… you’ll never get that one past a lot of women without some anger. Once again, anime produces a show aimed directly at horney teenage males.
If you can get past the “young cis-het male fantasy” aspect there were some interesting moments. The androgynous angel was a great idea but I wish it had been drawn more maturely. I couldn’t get rid of the feeling this was a nod to loli/shouta-con and not really to gender fluidity.
I’m afraid the brothel of the week format would have gotten really old really fast. At least for me. Overall I rate what I saw at 6.5, It could be more if they addressed these problems in later episodes I didn’t see..
